Weight Management for Pets

Like with people, maintaining a healthy body weight can also be a challenge for pets and other types of animals. Obesity and being overweight can make dogs, cats and other pets more prone to diseases such as diabetes, arthritis, respiratory conditions and liver diseases. It can shorten their lifespan and decrease their quality of life.

How do I know if my cat/dog is overweight?

An assessment of your pet’s body condition, performed by a veterinarian or veterinary technician, is the best way to determine whether or not your pet is overweight. Our team will be able to determine your pet’s body condition score during an in-clinic consultation.

How can I help my cat/dog lose weight?

Encouraging your pet to participate in various physical activities such as play, jumping, walking, running and doing tricks will increase their activity levels. The key is to be consistent with these lifestyle changes and make sure that your pet is rewarded with positive reinforcement.

What is offered during a nutritional consultation?

Dietary recommendations, a discussion of lifestyle changes and an outline of goals for weight loss and management are all covered during a consultation. Our nutritional plans vary depending on your pet and your personal routines and preferences.
