Euthanasia Services for Pets
The decision to say goodbye to your pet is never easy. We know that they are more than just loyal companions, but are cherished and loved members of your family. For this reason, our team handles these cases with the utmost sensitivity and consideration.
When should I consider pet euthanasia?
Our team will help you determine if euthanasia is an option to consider. Euthanasia may be an option for pets who are no longer benefitting from certain treatment plans for injuries or diseases or those that are in chronic pain. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you are uncertain how to proceed; we are here to support you during this difficult time.
What is the process of pet euthanasia?
The team at Bow River Veterinary Centre is here to assist you and your pet through this difficult process. Because we assess each pet individually, we request you to please contact the clinic to discuss the process of euthanasia further.
Do you do house calls?
Effective November 11, 2020, we are resuming House Calls or Home Visits during our regular business hours.
To provide the utmost protection for our clients and our team, we are applying safety measures to Home Visits, similar to the ones we have at the clinic. Please kindly review these points before your appointment.
- Anyone present for the appointment must wear a mask
- Please use hand sanitizer upon our team’s arrival
- Please observe physical distancing (as much as your space allows)
- Limit the number of people present during the appointment
Before we enter a client’s home space, we will also ask a set of questions to determine exposure to COVID-19. If we determine that clients have been exposed to COVID-19, our team members will not proceed with the Home Visit. Other arrangements will be made to provide necessary medical care for the patient.
Can I stay with my pet during euthanasia?
Yes. At Bow River, we provide a private and comforting place for you to say your goodbyes.
Do you offer bereavement support services?
We currently do not offer an official program for our grieving clients. That being said, we provide our clients with ample explanation of the euthanasia process, including an information package on dealing with the loss of a pet and recommendations for local support groups to join.
What products do you offer to help memorialize my pet?
When a general cremation is chosen, an impression of your pet’s unique paw print can be cast onto a Memorial Clay Paw Print.
With private cremations, you can choose a personalized Urn to cherish your beloved pet for many years to come. With this option, you will also receive the Memorial Clay Paw Print. Below are the standard Urns available:

As always, our team is here to answer any questions you may having during this difficult time.
