Bio_John Williamson.JPG

John Williamson, DVM - Associate

John graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College with honours in 2005. He spent a year as an intern at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine. Throughout his career he has been fortunate enough to work at and direct some of the busiest emergency clinics in Canada. He has been the Chief Veterinarian at the Huronia Veterinary Emergency Clinic, the Head of ER at the Veterinary Emergency Clinic and Referral Centre in downtown Toronto (scene of the popular TV show ER Vets) and a partner and head of Emergency for the Guardian Group in Edmonton.

John completed a certificate in advanced imaging in 2012 and to date has performed over 2000 abdominal ultrasounds. He is currently working on becoming only the second boarded practitioner in Alberta. John left emergency medicine in 2015 when the opportunity to move to the Canmore and work at the Bow River Veterinary Centre presented itself.

John and his partner Erin welcomed their first human baby, Madelyn, to the family in 2014. She adores animals and can often be seen at the clinic trying to feed the clinic cat Zack (despite the fact he is on a diet!). John has three fur-babies; Nala - an 8-year-old Rhodesian Ridgeback with attitude, Cairo - a 7-year-old Boston Terrier with too much energy and Poppy - an 8-year-old miniature Dachshund who only pees in the house when it is too cold to go outside. In his off-time (which almost never happens) he can be found hiking, mountain biking, and trying to learn how to ski.

Carol Black, DVM - Associate

Dr. Carol Black graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 2005. Since graduation she has worked in Edmonton as a small animal practitioner. In 2012 she started locuming throughout Alberta, which ended up bringing her here, to the Bow River Vet Centre (where she did her practicum as a student in 2004, and is excited to be back on a full time basis!). Carol has lots of experience and continues to educate herself in small animal internal medicine, emergency medicine, dentistry, and surgery. In her spare time she enjoys skiing, hiking, taking her 12-year-old lab swimming, and is excited to explore the Bow Valley and integrate herself into this wonderful community!

Michaela associate vet bow river centre

Michaela Bartolini, DVM - Associate

Dr. Michaela was born and raised in Southwestern Ontario. Michaela graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph, Ontario with distinction in 2012. She began her veterinary career as a mixed animal veterinarian in a large practice in southwestern Ontario and transitioned to small animal practice where she has been splitting her time between general practice and locum emergency medicine work over the past few years. She and her husband have always loved the mountains, and they recently jumped at the opportunity to move to beautiful Alberta to pursue a more active lifestyle and enjoy all of the outdoor activities the Rockies have to offer. Her veterinary interests include soft tissue surgery, diagnostic ultrasound, and emergency medicine. When not in the clinic, she is likely out hiking, mountain biking, skiing, horseback riding, or in general enjoying Alberta and BC’s beautiful scenery whenever she can!

Come in to the clinic anytime to say hello to Dr. Michaela, and don’t be surprised if you run into her on the trails around Canmore with her two dogs; Bowie (a very quirky but adorable Rhodesian Ridgeback) and Tucker (the most laid back Chesapeake Bay Retriever in the world). Dr. Michaela is thrilled to be joining the team at the Bow Valley Vet Centre and is looking forward to getting to know the residents of Canmore and Banff and their four legged family members.

Nathan Bernadet

Nathan Bernadet, DVM - Associate

Dr. Nathan Bernadet grew up in a small town in Northern BC with several years in Zambia in between. His interest in animals grew early on with having many pets, running a wildlife rehabilitation center, and working with sled dogs.  After completing his undergrad with honours in 2004, he graduated with his DVM from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 2008.

After a few years in rural practice, he has steadily transitioned to companion animal medicine and surgical care and built on his strengths of combining compassion with critical thinking.  A big proponent of continuing education, he has a large amount of experience and training in dental, surgery, and emergency care. He has also worked at a large number of primary care and emergency clinics. His background and a large variety of life experiences bode well as he focuses on his patients by addressing their immediate and life-changing concerns. Whether that be a complicated dental procedure, a life-improving surgery, complex medical case, or an acute injury.

For both his patients and life in general, “make every day count” is one of his mottoes. The quality of life and providing that to his patients is his top concern.  In his days off he can usually be found in the mountains hiking, climbing, skiing, kayaking or doing intricate woodwork when at home. We are happy to welcome him to the team as he is excited to join the community of Canmore.

Ashleigh Allen

Ashleigh Allen, DVM - Associate

Originally from New Brunswick, Ashleigh completed her Bachelor of Science at the University of Prince Edward Island and Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine at the Atlantic Veterinary College. Following graduation, she relocated to Alberta for a one-year rotating internship at the CARE Centre and then practiced as an emergency veterinarian in Edmonton.

An avid mountain enthusiast, Ashleigh jumped at the chance to join the Bow River Veterinary Clinic. She is excited to be joining the community in Canmore and getting to know all its pets and people!

Ashleigh currently shares her home with her dog Duke and two cats. If she’s not at the clinic, you can usually find her on a mountain somewhere either climbing (rock and ice), scrambling, backpacking, or skiing!

Bio_Sophie Wilson.jpg

Sophie Wilson, RAHT

In 2011 I graduated from the University of Guelph with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Biology, and then went on to complete my Veterinary Technician Diploma at Algonquin College, in Ottawa.

In 2014 I moved to the beautiful mountains to be closer to family, and joined the team at the BRVC as an Animal Health Technologist. Even as a young child, I knew that the only path for me involved caring for animals. For this reason, there was no other reasonable option than to enter the veterinary world and help provide the best patient care.

At home, I enjoy my time with my loved ones, Eric and two sweet cats, Effy and Winnifred. I love cooking and baking, traveling to any wonderful place, biking in the mountains and around town, snowboarding, sailing, and everything involving the outdoors.

Bio_Brook Leduc.JPG

Brook Leduc, AHT

I am a Vet Tech here at BRVC. I was born and raised in Saskatchewan and moved to the Bow Valley in March 2016 after completing the veterinary technician program at Lakeland College. My two fur babies are Chloe and Clyde - one ferret is never enough!!

I have always had a passion for caring for animals; ever since I was a little girl. It’s my belief that life is best when you enjoy it; I love being outside and exploring nature and one day hope to add a few more animals to my herd. I look forward to continuing working with the amazing staff at BRVC and making Canmore my new mountain home.

Michelle Wulff, Client Services

I have lived in the Bow Valley for the past 20 years. I joined the Bow River Veterinary Centre team in September 2015 and nothing beats a day filled with fur cuddles. In my spare time I can be found camping with my husband, two kids, and pup Timber, or at one of the ski hills.

Bio_Sheri Burgess.jpg

Sheri Burgess, Groomer

I was born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario; moved to the Bow Valley in 2012, and like many others fell in love with the mountains and outdoor life. After working for an eternity in the hospitality industry I was more than ready to venture onto a new journey. I started working at BRVC in November 2012 as an Animal Care Attendant and learned more than a fair bit about animal behaviour, hospital care, and procedures. I was offered the opportunity to start grooming dogs so I gained some education and experience to do so. Love it!!

I work in all areas in the clinic where I am needed, except when I am fluffing pups up on the grooming table.

My hubby and I share our home with three naughty cats (Baysie, Boots, and Fonzie) and a loveable pup (Blue).

Bio_Marina Hulburd.jpg

Marina Hulburd, Animal Care Attendant

I have been working at the BRVC since September 2015, working with the animals in boarding. I tend to their everyday needs and make sure they’re overall happy campers during their stay. I grew up heavily partaking in sports, and upon leaving them I fostered a passion for the outdoors and an active lifestyle. What I appreciate most is that my job allows me to spend the majority of my day outside enjoying the not so predictable mountain weather.

During my downtime you can find me taking pictures of my crazy dog, drawing, or cuddled up on the couch with my cats watching a movie. I am also self-proclaimed best friend to Zack the Cat.

Bio_Robin Goodfellow.jpg

Robin Goodfellow, Animal Care Attendant

I'm a student currently entering my fourth year of a zoology degree at the University of Calgary. I'm back at the clinic for the summer as an animal care attendant as well as a tech assistant. I am currently pursuing a career in veterinary medicine, and when I'm not at home watching Netflix, I can be found climbing, swimming, or running with my little white dog, Baxter.

Zackary, Resident Cat

Zack came to us in January 2016 looking for a new home, but he really enjoyed the love of his clinic family and decided to stay. He quickly showed us that he has a natural talent for customer service and mischief. Zack’s favourite things include drinking out of the toilet, sleeping on the appointment book, and stealing food. Feel free to come by and say “Hi” to Zack anytime!

Maddy, Zack's BBF

Maddy is one of Zack’s BBF’s and is responsible for cuteness overload. She keeps her daddy, Dr Williamson, on his toes and often stops by to manage our toy selection.
